Mother Hildegarde has been CAST!
Frances de la Tour joins the cast of Outlander as Mother Hidegarde!

Brilliant! Do you know that every time I encountered Mother Hildegarde in the books I pictured Frances de la Tour! She's a brilliant actress and one who just seems perfect for this role.

De la Tour's career spans five decades across theatre, film and television. On the TV side, her many credits include Poirot, Waking The Dead, Marple, New Tricks and BBC One’s Big School. She is also a regular on the ITV sitcom Vicious (pictured), which is currently in the middle of its second season and airs on PBS in the United States.

And on the film side... well I think a lot of us remember her as Madame Maxine in Harry Potter but has recently been in Into the Woods, Hugo, and Alice in Wonderland.

Mother Hidegarde is a key figure in the second book Dragonfly In Amber (which season two is based on), Mother Hildegarde is the intelligent and commanding Mother Superior who runs L’Hopital Des Anges in Paris. A tall, gaunt woman with a deep and powerful voice, Hildegarde comes from an aristocratic, well-connected family.

I see it too! I can already picture it and I'm stoked.

Wow! They really worked some CGI magic on her for the HP movies. She was supposed to be 11' tall in the films and in reality, she's only 5'8". She'll be a very good Mother Hildegarde.

You're watching Poldark, aren't you? Eleanor Tomlinson (Demelza) would be another good candidate for Brianna. I am now head-over-heels for Aidan Turner. I've been watching Aidan clips all evening, every evening for a week. He's sooooo adorable and funny as well as being an awesome actor. I've pre-ordered the Poldark Blu-ray and will have it July 7th. That means I don't have to wait for it to air every Sunday. \o/

She will be. I always thought she was 6' 6" or something. She's not that tall! That was some serious magic at Hogwarts. LOL

LOL I do think Eleanor would be an amazing Brianna! I kept thinking that the entire time I was watching Poldark.

I do love Aiden too. I am so in love with the show Poldark it isn't even funny. YAY for pre-ordered. I hope you truly enjoy it.

Yes, I thought Frances was well over six feet tall, too. I suppose if Peter Jackson's crew can make 6'3" Richard Armitage look like a dwarf, the CGI wizards can also make a normal height woman look gigantic.

Glad you agree about Eleanor Tomlinson as Brianna. She's a wonderful actress and looks the part. I am in love with Poldark, too. I discovered that there are about a hundred clips from episodes 1 through 8 on YouTube. These are some of my favorites, but don't watch if you don't want spoilers.

Poor Ross...he looks so devastated these clips.

I'm embarking on a mission to see everything Aidan has been in. There are a gazillion videos of him on YouTube including a lot of interviews and even complete British TV shows. The only thing I had seen him in before Poldark was The Hobbit films. I've been spending hours at YouTube and have ordered the DVDs of a bunch of his other movies. When I get obsessed, I really get obsessed. ;)

LOL I've seen the entire season of Poldark already. I watched it while it was on in the UK. I'm so in love with this show. I really like Aiden too but I haven't gotten obsessed with him. I didn't even realize he was in the Hobbit movies but now that I think about it... I think I remember him. Have to watch again.

Thanks for these vids. I love them too.

The scenes about the baby kill me everytime.

Since posting the above videos, I've discovered that ALL the episodes, complete, are on YouTube so I've seen it all, too. However, wouldn't you know the final episode isn't there. Darn!! But I'll have the Blue-ray set on Tuesday so I guess I can wait that long to see it.

I wasn't all that smitten with Aidan in The Hobbit, but then none of the dwarfs particularly interested me. But Peter Jackson like him so much that he enlarged his part and had him and Evangeline Lilly's Tauriel fall in love. Here are a couple of BTS videos from The Hobbit. Aidan is obviously having a wonderful time and is absolutely adorable on set.

I miss his gorgeous curls at the beginning of this clip. :'(

Oh my gosh! That was the Hobbit I liked the most! Okay so I loved that he liked Evangeline Lily's character even though that is not part of the story.

I noticed all the episode are on YouTube except the finale too. What a bummer.

Oh my gosh! That was the Hobbit I liked the most!

Me, too! PJ really took liberties with the story, but once I saw the movie, I definitely forgave him for adding Tauriel and the interaction between her and Kili was the icing on the cake.

Yes!

What I would really love is for Jamie Dornan and Aidan Turner to make a movie together. They're both from northern Ireland and the same age and height. Jamie is from Belfast and Aidan is from Dublin. It COULD happen.

You know I would bet that will happen someday.
Jo Ann: Aidan as Rosettiyeuxdebleu on July 23rd, 2015 12:08 am (UTC)
I would be absolutely thrilled if it did. I wonder if they've ever met.
Jill aka Josireesanwar on July 24th, 2015 04:57 pm (UTC)
Probably no way of knowing without just asking... and that might be weird.

Well, since I'll never get the opportunity, I guess the question is moot. :(

She's pretty close to what I imagined in my head, and I've liked her in other stuff I've seen her in. Looking forward to seeing her in the role.
Jill aka Josireesanwar on July 3rd, 2015 07:50 pm (UTC)
Me too. I can't wait to see her in the role.

Oh that's a great choice. I think she'll be perfect for this role.

Right! I can already see her in the role. Exciting!
