The Parts of Outlander You Miss...
*lol* Pardon me but with a subject like that I had to use this gif.

Let's talk about the scenes from the book Outlander that you really wish had been in the show. NOT that the show isn't brilliant but you know we all have those little moments in the books we just treasure so what are they?

I'll get the ball rolling....
The discussion between Jamie and Claire on the road after the whole spanking thing. I love when Jamie and Claire are talking on their way back to Leoch.
Jamie shuffled his feet in the dust, embarrassed. He ducked his head shyly. "Well now, Sassenach, I'm not better than most men. Sometimes I try, but I dinna always manage. Ye know that bit in St. Paul, where he says 'tis better to marry than burn? Well, I was burnin' quite badly there."

I laughed again, feeling light-hearted as a sixteen-year-old myself. "So you married me," I teased, "to avoid the occasion of sin?"

"Aye. That's what marriage is good for; it makes a sacrament out of things ye'd otherwise have to confession.

Outlander, Chapter 22

What about you?

I definitely agree about that one. Off hand, I can't think of any others except the honesty speech. They sort of did it, but not in the place where it truly belonged.

Great GIF, great body, great everything.

I do miss the honesty conversation.

I do love that gif.

I really missed that part too. I really felt they messed up the whole aftermath of the spanking in the show to be honest.

Another thing I'm really sad they didn't include was the hand holding after the wedding. I just remember thinking that it was such a smart idea from Jamie for them hold hands while getting to know eachother.

I guess I'd also preferred more focus on the time at the monastery in the last episode over the flashbacks they had from the prison. Considering her time there helps Claire in the future.

YES! And on the wedding night too. They were holding hands a lot which kind of forced them to get to know one another. Oh man that is a good part and now I really miss it.

I felt they took so much away from Jamie. He's got less humor and smarts in the show than the books.

Yes, I think everyone does.

I felt that was such an important part to them getting closer. I was so disappointed that they didn't include it.

They did, I felt the writers did him a disservice in the Lallybroch episode. He came across as a spoiled brat in that one, and I never got that impression in the books.
I hope they get more of his humor and smarts included in the coming seasons.

I guess most of the things I miss are the little moments, but those are hard to include in a TV show.

I know. It would have been a simple thing.

That is true about Lallybroch though I did like it because it seemed like the younger brother thing to do but I wish they'd showed more of Jamie's true personality.

Me too!

It is true though there are some I hope they include which are sweet and funny....

[Spoiler (click to open)]In Fiery Cross when Jamie gives her the "posies" and they are poison ivy. LOL I loved that bit in the book...

I get the little brother angle, but I felt they covered that very nicely with the arrival itself.

Yes! I love that moment, I really hope they include that.

[Spoiler (click to open)]I also want the print shop meeting in Voyager to be pretty much lifted from the book.
Oh, and Jamie's reaction to Claire in the red dress in DiA, I would have liked their discussion about shaving too, but they'll never include that.

It is true. I mean I wouldn't have minded it if Jamie had realized the way he was acting on his own. I'm listening to Outlander and one thing that stands out is Jamie tends to know when things are out of control and he reins them in whether it is his own action or a fight between himself and Claire.

Oh all of those are so good. I want them included too!
Kaylee Winchester: Outlander The Frasersroguem on October 18th, 2015 10:50 am (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I felt too. He comes across much more smart and level headed in the book.

I also kind of wish they'd included more of Claire acting as healer at both Lallybroch and Leoch. All in all that they showed that Claire and Jamie actually spent a long time at Lallybroch.

There's so much I wish they'd included. I would happily have watched a 100% true 100 hour long adaptation of the book to be honest.

Maybe the show will have him almost grow into that... I mean Jamie is young for such wisdom though a different time (people growing up faster back then).

It would have been nice. I would have at least loved to see Claire being a healer in the background when everyone was gathering a Lallybroch to pay their rents.

Me too. Kind of like the really long BBC Colin Firth P&P. It is long but so good and true.

Still it is amazing as I listen to the book how close they got the show. Of course, there are some instances where the tone in the show is much differed from the books tone.
Kaylee Winchester: Outlander The Frasersroguem on October 24th, 2015 09:43 am (UTC)
I hope so.

Agreed, a little more of her learning to live in that time without it just being tied to Jamie.

Oh, I love the BBC P&P.

Yeah, they did get a lot of things right. But there will always be moments I miss.

Like when Claire decides to go back to Jamie instead of back through the stones to Frank, and he tells her how he was praying that he would have the strength not to beg her to stay. I would have loved if they included that.
Jill aka Jo: TP: Dual MPsireesanwar on October 29th, 2015 08:46 pm (UTC)
Me too.

Exactly. I loved that about the book. Claire loves Jamie and will trudge all over the highlands to find and save him but when they are together they often do their own things and are happy for it.

I love that moment. Just listened to it the other day. There is this tone about the book... Jamie and Claire both have their own wisdom and aren't afraid to say when they are out of their comfort zone. You don't get that in the show.
Kaylee Winchester: Tangled Lightsroguem on November 3rd, 2015 11:35 am (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I love about them too.
But the books will always be better.

I'm hoping they'll bring more of that into the show as it progresses.

Me too.
