More season 2 speculation
The Outlander cast held a panel for the Television Critics Association last week. The season 2 premiere episode was previewed for those in attendance.

It was a closed event, but a few of the critics in attendance tweeted that the first episode of season 2 starts off in 1948, which is, of course, the year Claire returns to in book 2 when Jamie sends her through the stones before the battle of Culloden. So maybe instead of telling her tale to Bree and Roger, she recounts everything to Frank?

Also, the Toronto Globe and Mail's TV critic, John Doyle, did a lovely interview with Caitriona Balfe.

That was a delightful interview. Thanks for posting it.

Hmm, not sure how that would work if season 2 opens with Claire explaining to Frank what happened to her, but I suppose it could be done like that. There is quite a to-do when she's found and has to explain herself, but I no longer remember exactly where that happens.

I'm actually in the middle of re-reading DIA, but haven't gotten to the part where she goes back through the stones to 1948, and yeah, I can't remember exactly what happens either.

Well that is all in Voyager actually. I've been listening and this is when she tells Roger what Frank thought of everything and how it ended up between them. So I would guess they are going to start with some of what happened in then maybe just have her telling Frank the story of everything and then we'll see Brianna at the end?

I read all the books one after the other starting in April of this year -- I'd avoided them in the past because the whole thing just sounded like a glorified Harlequin romance novel. Then I had several people on Twitter talking about the series, so started downloading the first half of season 1 and was hooked after that. But because I read all the novels back to back in the space of about 3 months, they all kind of blur for me now -- can't remember what happened in which book.

I know. Me too. But I have it down now. I've read/listened to them so many time I pretty much know it all. Makes things less surprising in the show but I love the books so much.

Right now I'm in Drums of Autumn!

Not happy that they're pushing in more Frank, but I'm really looking forward to this season. A bit disappointing that we don't get to know Brianna and Roger straight away, but will be interesting to see how that's handled.

I've been thinking that maybe, because Bree and Roger play a much larger role in book 3 (and onwards), for TV (and non-readers), the producers/writers maybe thought it made more sense to introduce them nearer the end to better set up the next season?

The thought did strike me. So that might be plausible.

Just found this piece from Variety -- says Claire and Frank are on their way to America when it starts up.

Ah, so maybe some of the flashbacks with Claire and Frank from Voyager will make an appearance as well then? So Frank will be completely removed by next season,
Jill aka Josireesanwar on February 6th, 2016 01:24 am (UTC)
I wondered about that but it seems Brianna won't be on until the end so I'm thinking he'll just be BJR in this season and we'll see Frank the beginning of the third. A lot.

Could do without more Frank filler personally. From the last trailer it seems like he'll have a part to play this season too.

I know. I don't want more Frank. I mean I know we'll eventually see him but... no.

I'm getting the very strong impression that this season will end with Claire and Bree showing up at Roger's house.

Me too.

I actually think it makes sense. In Voyager we get recounting of what happened to Claire when she returned and had to tell Frank so I'm guessing they are just going to show that and telling Frank what happened and then Brianna will learn all about it at the end???

I hope they don't end the season with Brianna learning about Jamie.

Maybe some of the flashbacks with Claire and Frank from Voyager will make an appearance as well then? Could make sense that they'd want to free up Tobias from the show by the end of this season.

Me neither, it should happen mid season at the latest imo.
