Sam Heughan on how Outlander helped him rediscover Scotland
Here's an interview with Sam Heughan from the Scotsman in which Sam discusses how the show has helped him rediscover his homeland. A few very minor spoilers (mostly if you're not into the books) for Season 2.

That was amazing. I loved learning about Scotland but after reading Outlander I knew and learned a lot more from Diana and from looking things up myself.

I'm of Scottish ancestry, and while I've always been interested in my Scottish roots, I will admit that the show and books spurred me into getting totally into the whole genealogy thing.

Also, there's an excellent 10-part series on the History of Scotland done by the BBC that aired a few years back. It's written and narrated by Neil Oliver and really worth watching. Really drives home how miserable the history of that poor country has been over the centuries. The DVD may be available through Amazon (not sure if it's region encoded), but I found torrents easily enough.

Interesting. I'd watch that.

I'm a little jealous you have Scottish ancestry. LOL My step-grandmother was and I loved hearing about it. She loved her heritage and I got interested but it got so much worse with Outlander.

I'll see if I can find that History of Scotland.
