Outlander Kitchen
Everytime I visit this community, I see the promo plug for the Outlander Kitchen cookbook in the right sidebar. I was wondering if anyone here has tried any of the recipes from the Outlander Kitchen website?

I've tried a half dozen or so thus far and I have to say that I've been extremely pleased and impressed with them. My favourite is probably the Scotch Broth recipe -- so easy and so filling. I've also found two cookie recipes that turn out great each time and get rave reviews from anyone else who tries them: Claire's Chewy Molasses cookies and the Double Chocolate Icebox Shortbread with Smoky Whisky Sugar.

Anyone else have any favourites they've tried?

TYK for sharing this website! I've had the cookbook on pre-order ever since I saw it, but I didn't know about the website.

You're welcome! And FYI -- not all of the recipes on the site will be in the cookbook and vice-versa.

Ah, good to know!

I haven't tried any but then I rarely try all the recipes I want to because I try the ones I post to my journal. Not enough time in the day. LOL

Still I will get to some of those recipes as soon as possible.

Those Double Chocolate Icebox Shortbread sound amazing. I'll have to try those.

You can skip the whisky sugar part -- it's nice but probably the fiddliest-bit of the recipe. And I still have loads left of the stuff even after making that recipe 4 times now.

Good to know. If I have the time to try it I will.

I tried the whiskey cocktail rusty nail she put up and it was okay. But to be fair its hard to make scotch taste good in a cocktail. I'll have to try the broth.

I tried the whisky sour recipe and loved it -- and I'm not a huge fan of mixed drinks (plus it seemed wrong to add things to a fine whisky) but it was really good!

If you do try the Scotch Broth, I have made it each time with beef rather than lamb -- neither my husband or I like lamb much. Because of that, the broth is milder I think and so I usually also add a beef bouillon cube to boost the flavour a wee bit.

One of the members of my in-person Outlander Book Club made the bannocks recipe for one of our meetings and although they were crumblier than she had hoped, I thought they tasted good.

I've made the Crowdie Cheese twice now and it's not only amazingly easy, but quite good.
